I Saw The Light
Welcome to our very first episode of In The Lighthouse. I’m Daphne Collins, your host for our time together. I’m excited to usher in this first of many episodes of our podcast which is brought to you by Carry the Light Ministries. The lighthouse is your safe harbor from the storm. So what exactly do I mean when I speak of the storm? Well, I’m speaking metaphorically about those life circumstances that we’re likely to get caught up in. The truth is, it is inevitable that we must go through them in order to come out on the other side. For some, these storms are short-lived, but for many, the storms can last for years. The safe harbor, however, is where you will find peace – whether you’re currently going through a storm, or if you’ve just come out of one and want to tell the world about it. For anyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ, it’s possible that your storms are not of your own making, but the consequences of someone else’s wrong choices. To you, the Christian, I say this: batten down the hatches and hold on! Remember, the Lord is with you and will never forsake you. And for the one who has not decided to follow Jesus yet, I ask, are you willing to risk your eternity on the roulette wheel of life? And what about the life of those you love?
But let’s talk about the purpose of the podcast. Every Wednesday we will meet right here, In The Lighthouse, to have open and honest discussions on topics that are sent to us. Once a month we will feature a true story told to you by someone whose testimony will encourage anyone needing strength to persevere. But the majority of what you hear will come directly from you, our listeners, by way of your correspondence. I will be joined by my friend and co-host Melissa Saenz, writer of the Eternal Treasures devotions. Melissa and I will select from your emails and comments, and highlight them in our From the Mailbag episodes. There may be times when some of the stories will cause disquiet for some of you. Fear not, our intent is to share stories that will generate conversation because we can all agree that life is difficult—and for some, more than others. But it is how we persevere through these difficulties that makes all the difference in the world. So please go to our website and find The Lighthouse, and share your story. You can also begin receiving the Eternal Treasures devotions by clicking on the button at the Lady With The Lamp page, and there, you can register to get on our mailing list. We look forward to hearing from you! Everyone loves to hear stories about overcomers—those heroes that fight against the forces that try to destroy them and live to tell the tale. Today, we will hear from one such overcomer. Okay, let’s get started!
How many of us could recall that exact day and time when we found ourselves falling into the deepest pit of darkness with no hope of getting out? We linger there for a while, when suddenly a light appears in the darkness. Should we turn and run to the uncertainty of the light, or go deeper into the familiar darkness? Our first episode is entitled, “I Saw the Light,” and it is a story of redemption as told to you by our featured guest, Anthony Canales, in his own words. I met with Anthony, a Public Relations Assistant and Student Sponsorship Representative for Teen Challenge Arizona, to hear about his remarkable journey from darkness to light. You will note that Anthony’s account is open and honest, and may not be suitable for younger audiences, so I caution adults and parents to use discretion with your young ones when listening to this episode.
